How To Photograph A Nude Model Using A Digital Camera And Candlelight

Nude shots are a very erotic yet artful way of showing the very best in a females beautiful body. Nude photography requires years of experience to master. Yet it is a very fulfilling endeavour for a photographer because it can certainly bring out a certain level of satisfaction in him. Adult photography is indeed very challenging. And if you get really good in it, you can already treat that as an achievement in its own right.

If you would like to experiment with nude photography, try using candlelight as the main source of lighting in your shots. There are quite many reasons why you should do so. The first one is the fact that candlelight can produce a subdued and intimate feel to your shots.

However, the dim effect of candlelight may not be sufficient for a professional shot. The workaround is to use as many candles as you need to light up your subject and proceed with the shoot with the ample lighting that you need.

However, using candlelight is quite a tricky job for photography. You have to be very precise with your camera settings because you want to capture the unique shadow that candlelight produces. Exposure time for candlelight shots is just a few seconds. Keep this in mind at all times whenever you try to position your model. You have to use a pose that is very comfortable to her so that she wont make unnecessary movements as you press that shutter.

Furthermore, candlelight produces a beautiful effect on your subjects skin. With the colour of the light that it produces, you really need not do anything about the skin tone of your model during the digital photo retouching stage. Your flattering shot would be complemented by her flawless skin, which is very important in glamour or nude photography. When you go nude, the only thing that your model has on is her skin. It is only important that it is shown in all its glory. And only the candlelight effect can create the perfect skin tone for your model.

However, using a digital camera and candlelight is not going to be easy. In fact, using candles could even complicate the whole thing. So before you do the actual shoot with your model in place, do tests and take many practice shots. On the chosen location of the shoot, find the right places were the candles must be positioned, considering not just the light it produces but the shadow they cast as well. You also have to consider safety when doing a test run.

As for your digital camera, you have to adjust it in such a way the shots you make are in their best form. Try to set the shutter sensitivity, white balance, and noise level to its optimum settings and find out which combination is best. Practice and test with an inanimate subject or an alternate model before you go out and do the main shoot. This way, youll be precise and sure. And youll take shots of your model in the most erotic yet highly artistic way possible.

The Need To Develop A Niche In Microstock Photography

Initially, when are first accepted the tendency is to submit everything you shoot to the library. Not a bad idea to quickly build up your portfolio and start earning. However, pre-judge each image for size, quality and content. In other words edit you submission carefully. Then once you have uploaded every saleable image on your hard drive start to think about making your mark by creating a niche.

What you have to do is simply take stock of the images that you can shoot and they will sell. The more clearly defined the niche the easier it is to establish. From my website you will gather that I shoot property. Basically because I came from a construction background and the subjects were all around me. And they are fairly good sellers.

Landscapes is a niche, but it is oversubscribed. You need to specialise further. I know a photographer that specialises in Steam trains. Another photographer I know, shoots amazing landscapes mainly in the Yorkshire Dales. After a while, because they make regular submissions on the subject, they are classed as experts in their field. I have had request for interior images from buyers after they have viewed my portfolio.

So you need to assess you interests, potential sales and how easily you can shoot the subject. I’m not going to tell you shoot only subjects for your niche. But shooting for your niche gives your photography a direction. Instead of sat there, with a mental block, wondering what to shoot today, you will have an idea based on your niche. Of course whilst out shooting fresh images you will then come across photo opportunities to add to your portfolio.

So how do you decide your niche?

Well I looked at the picture opportunities around me. I have always worked in construction, so that an obvious choice I suppose. So the first thing to do is to look at the niches already available to you. Look at your other hobbies and interests. You may have a neighbour, friend or relation that has an unusual hobby or occupation. You may be a collector of antiques or live in a large city.

The best thing to do is sit down and make a list. And I don’t me a general list, I mean a specific list. For example don’t write landscapes, write down ‘North Yorkshire Moors’. You may know a Dentist; this would be an excellent opportunity. Medical subjects always sell well.

Once you have a good idea about your niche, make a few searches in the Libraries. I tend to search iStock as it gives you an accurate number of views and downloads. You can also put them in order of popularity so you can see instantly the best sellers.

Developing a niche will improve your photography as you will focus on the chosen subject and come up with more creative ideas. But that won’t stop you shooting and submitting other subjects and allow you to build up your portfolio. You can also develop more than one niche and see what subjects sell the best. Personally I find it better to test your ideas before throwing yourself into one particular subject.

The beauty of the Microstock Market is that you can test and experiment and it costs nothing to try. So sit down and make that list. It’s amazing what subjects you will come up with!

Photography Marketing Tip The Power Of Determining Your Target Market For Your Business

Trying to market a photography business without having a very specific “Target Market” is like trying to play football without a goal line. How will you ever make a touchdown, or know which direction you should be going?

I’m amazed at how many photographers just try to “get their name out there.” I hate that statement! It says nothing and means even less. What’s important to your success is WHO you go after in the market place.

Why? Because you have a limited budget – both in time and money. So you must pick very carefully who you want to work with, and then go after them with a passion. You can not be all things to all people, and expect to be truly successful in your photography business. You’re going to have to pick and choose.

Honestly, good photography marketing is more about “picking who” than it is about just trying to blindly “get your name out there” to everyone.

What I’m saying is that success in photography marketing is all about the “Target Market.” Let me explain:

Your “Target Market” is that group of folks who you want to invest time and money into convincing them to contact and work with you. It’s where you put all your efforts.

Let me give you an example: There are three major attributes which describe my “Target Market” for my portrait and wedding photography business:

Attribute #1 of my Target Market: I go after Females 25 – 65: Why is this important? Because I have found that as a basic guideline, men do not invest in the type and style of photography I create. So why bother trying to reach them and motivate them to call me? It’s a waste of time and money.

Attribute #2 of my Target Market: I go after “Warm Fuzzies”: This is a term I use to refer to a person who is sensitive and emotional. She cries at movies. She is “right brain dominant” – meaning that she lives most of her life in “right brain” – the emotional, creative side of the brain, and only a small part of her life in “left brain” (the logical, analytical side of the brain.) Why is this desirable? Because we know people invest in photography for emotional reasons – not logical reasons.

Attribute #3 of my Target Market: I go after those folks who value what I do: Why is this important? Because I learned a long time ago that it really hurts to put all the work into creating beautiful portraits or wedding photography for someone who really doesn’t value what I do. I put all that time and effort into it only to have them not like the images, and not invest much in them either.

Can you see how having this “Target Market” in the front of my mind at all times really helps my business be more successful? Why? Because I know exactly who I want to reach with my photography marketing efforst. So I can carefully figure out where these people live, work, shop, eat, etc. and then go after them – and only them.

Once you have defined your Target Market, then you start asking yourself what are the best ways to become a “big fish” in that small “pond.” You basically don’t waste your time going after anyone else. You just stay focused on your Target Market and work hard on reaching them.

For example, once you know one of the characteristics of your Target Market is that they are “Warm Fuzzies”, you start showing only really warm and fuzzie images on your displays and exhibits all over town. The “Cold Pricklies” (the other side of the human coin) won’t like those images, and won’t call you. But the “Warm Fuzzies” will love them, and therefore call you. See how it works?

Defining your Target Market, in as much detail as possible, will greatly improve the effectiveness of your marketing for your photography business, whether you are marketing online or offline, or both.

Use of Lenses in Photography

It would be very ridiculous to discuss the usage of lenses in photography. After all, how will photography ever be possible if you do not have the right kind of lens fitted inside your digital camera? Their use is very important. From a different perspective, one can say that the advantages that come from their use are many.

If a photographer uses the canon telephoto lens, then the images clicked from the digital camera will have an appealing texture. The telephoto lens has an innate ability of capturing the image as it is, without any distortions or blurring. It ensures that the image comes out as its original self. The creative urge of the photographer will be satisfied. He will not get a feeling that the image came out differently, completely opposite to his expectations. These lenses are quite expensive. Instead of directly purchasing them, it would be wise to rent them through camera lens rental or canon camera lens rental.

A technically advanced lens like the wide angle lens will ensure wide images. Though the photographer might stand at a distance still the image come out wide. It seems as if the photographer was at proximity with the image. The wide angle lens has been built to capture the image from a certain width. The wide angle lens is usually used by photographers to capture multiple objects. They have to be squeezed in together, which distorts the visual appeal of the photographers. To avert this, the lens is used so that the width is retained and the picture comes out well.

The lenses used in photography also offer good resolution and extensive zoom feature. The resolution ensures clarity in photograph. The photograph will always have properly placed pixels which make it look good. Every color and pixel of the picture will be viewed clearly by the viewer. Zoom feature is another unique advantage. The zoom feature ensures that the photographer is able to close in on the picture. The distance may be there though, but the photographer is easily able to take a close shot. The picture that comes out happens as if it has been taken at a very close distance. The lenses that make this possible can be rented from good stores at nominal camera lens rental and canon camera lens rental.

There are other uses too. For various genres of photography like wild life, aerial, wedding and portrait, there are different lenses. The usage too happens accordingly. Since all of these offer different advantages, every genre can be covered well.

The use of lenses in photography is a very well defined process. The right lens for the right type of photography guarantees good results. A wrong choice makes the process look very unconvincing. It is very important to use the right lens so that the pictures can be taken well and they reflect all the qualities they should. That is the right lens being used in the process is strictly advocated.

There are so many types of photography that a photographer can indulge in, that lenses automatically become an integral part of the whole process. Aerial photography would require different lenses, wedding photography would have different lenses being fitted in, and portrait photography again comes with a different requirement and the same augurs for fashion photography as well. So in the midst of all these types that a photographer does to make himself versatile, debating whether the lenses will be useful or not is an exercise in futility. They have to be there to make a difference and make the pictures look as they should be.

The Evolution Of Photography The Beginning

Photography! Who could have thought that we would now be able to take pictures through a digital camera and transfer to a computer and change the colors or any of the attributes of an image or a photograph? Digital cameras are sharper and provide high quality pictures that can be used over multiple mediums.

Sir John Herschel is a man who invented the term Photography’ in 1839.

This was also the year when the process of Photography was unveiled to the public.

How did photography really evolve? Well! It is the bi-product of laws of physics and compounds of chemistry. The evolution of photography is a completely scientific process starting with the use of optics in the 1830’s.

The dark room or Camera Obscura existed some four hundred years back, while cameras were being used since the 11th century and yet photography did not come into public use before the 1830’s.

There were different observations made by several people that finally led to putting together of all the missing pieces and this also announced the advent of photography. Some of those important observations are:

* In the 15th century, Robert Boyle found out that silver chloride turned dark when exposed to air and not light.

* In the early 1800’s Angelo Sala observed that when silver nitrate powder is kept in the sun for long, it turns black.

* Around 1727, Johann Heinrich Schulze made a discovery regarding colors. There were some liquids that changed their colors when they were exposed to light.

* Thomas Wedgwood conducted some experiments in the early 19th century. He had captured images but could make the images permanent.

* The first ever successful production of a photograph emerged in the June-July of 1827 by Joseph Nicphore Nipce. The material used for this became hard when exposed to light for almost 8 hrs. Nipce went into a partnership with Louis Daguerre on 4th Jan, 1829 to work further on this.

Four years later in 1833, Nipce died and Daguerre continued alone to discover how to develop photographic plates. Invention of the photographic plates meant that the exposure time was reduced considerably, from 8 hrs to 30 minutes. He also made another important observation and the conclusion drawn was that immersing an image in salt would make it permanent.

Paul Delaroche, a leading French scholar made a report on this and the French government bought the rights in July 1839, and made it public on 19th Aug, 1839. This process was named Daguerreotype after Louis Daguerre.

The Daguerreotype process was expensive and one time affair. At that time there were no negatives available and hence the original photograph could not be reproduced. The only way of getting two copies was by using two cameras side by side. This led to the growing need of finding a way to copy pictures and finally led to the invention of the Calotype process by William Henry Fox Talbot.

Although the Daguerreotype was superior to the Calotype, the latter was able to provide multiple positive prints of a single picture in 1840. This was the calling of a new dawn!
